Let’s be honest, we work in a very male dominated industry.

But it’s great to see that this is quickly changing.

As pioneers in our industry, we pride ourselves on recruiting the best people for the job which is to aid the continuous improvement of PCL ceramics’ products and services. To achieve this, PCL hire men and women from all over the world and all walks of life.

We believe that this diversity, is why we stand out from the crowd as innovators in manufacturing.

To celebrate International Woman’s Day, our two newest female team members have shared their thoughts on what is a welcoming and rewarding industry for everyone.

“Life is not easy for any of us. But what of that? We must have perseverance and, above all, confidence in ourselves. We must believe that we are gifted for something and that this thing must be attained.” – Marie Curie.

“In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different.” - Coco Chanel.

These two inspiring quotes are from two powerful women that I personally admire. They had completely different backgrounds but something in common: passion, talent, and persistence.

It is notorious that women are underrepresented in STEM or any senior positions. Due to a historical, clearly mistaken, belief that women are less qualified and competent than men and therefore should not have a place in this kind of environment, plenty of women used to feel discouraged to invest in such careers. But, since then, a lot has changed.

Nowadays, education is being rebuilt, talent and powerful women are being put in evidence. Some companies encourage women to apply for senior roles and build a pleasant and welcoming environment for them. I am proud to say that I am currently working for one of them.

During my life, I had the pleasure to meet many talented women: engineers, lawyers, scientists who are successful and prove that there is no point in thinking that men fit better in certain positions than women. I believe we are equals, and from my perspective and experience, diversity helps drive innovation.

For quite a long period it was believed that only men can work in the industrial and manufacturing sector.

But fortunately, times are changing. I used to work in men collectives for a long time and can say that I was lucky to work with really professional, friendly and supportive men's teams. Much depends on how you perceive and present yourself and this applies to both men and women.

The main thing is to always be yourself, real and try to do your best to make maximum contribution to the overall result.

I believe that a woman brings rationality, creativity, a process of cooperation, tries to build an open and harmonious relationship.

From the point of view of efficiency, which undoubtedly means knowledge of a direct subject, soft-skills also began to come to the fore -

empathy, intuition and creative thinking traditionally attributed to women. But nowadays it start to appear as not-gender characteristics, more of a personality.

To be honest, I have a great attitude to both men and women, we are different but it makes life even more interesting - that we can give to each other all we need and learn from each other.

And still the most important thing, in my opinion, is to be professional and a fan of what you do, and then gender does not matter, everyone has equal opportunities.

The main thing is a sincere desire to move forward and change yourself and the world around you for the best.

Therefore, I wish all women and men to believe in themselves, and this will help us build a brighter future for all.
