A colloidal suspension (“liquid slip”) is fed into a porous filter cavity (“the mould”)
Carrier liquid is forced from the suspension into the mould material as filtrate
The solid material remains as a filter cake in the shape of the mould (the “cast” piece)
Air injected to the mould walls (“release air”) removes (“demoulds”) the piece from the mould
The release air continues to ”purge” the mould of filtrate and any particles that have penetrated the mould pores
